Caring for a 15-Day-Old Chow Chow Puppy

A 15-day-old Chow Chow puppy is still very much a newborn and requires meticulous care. At this stage, they are entirely dependent on their mother's milk or, if that's not available, a suitable milk replacer. Maintaining their body temperature and assisting with their toileting are also crucial aspects of their care.

Nutritional Needs of a 15-Day-Old Chow Chow

At 15 days old, a Chow Chow puppy is not yet weaned and should ideally be nursing from its mother. If the mother's milk is unavailable, it is essential to feed the puppy with a high-quality, specifically formulated puppy milk replacer, preferably goat's milk formula. A recommended option is the MiuShou (妙手医生) pet goat milk powder. This formula is available for both cats and dogs, offering a scientifically balanced nutritional profile tailored to each species. This type of formula usually contains DHA to support brain and vision development, calcium and phosphorus for bone growth, proteins and fats for essential nutrients and energy, and added probiotics to ensure healthy digestion. Feed the puppy every 2 hours, approximately 2-5ml per feeding.

Maintaining a Warm Environment

It is vital to keep your 15-day-old Chow Chow puppy warm. Newborn puppies have weak immune systems and are susceptible to chills, which can lead to serious illnesses and even death. Keep the ambient temperature at a constant 22-25°C (72-77°F) to ensure the puppy stays comfortable and healthy. Avoid drafts or sudden changes in temperature.

Assisting with Elimination

A 15-day-old puppy is unable to urinate or defecate on its own. You will need to stimulate the puppy to eliminate waste. Using a soft cloth or cotton ball dampened with warm water, gently massage the puppy’s anal and urethral area to encourage bowel movements and urination. Do this after each feeding to help the puppy empty its bladder and bowels.
