How to Lure a Parrot Down and Find It After It's Lost

If your parrot goes missing, begin your search by checking nearby areas such as rooftops, windowsills, and tree branches. Once you spot it, place some of its favorite treats underneath or call its name to encourage it to come down.

Domestic parrots typically aren't strong fliers, so they usually don't stray too far. Start by searching around your immediate vicinity, paying close attention to elevated spots where birds often perch, like eaves, windows, and branches.

If you can't find your parrot around your home, it's time to enlist the help of your neighbors. Distribute photos of your parrot along with your contact information, asking for their assistance. Offering a small reward can often expedite the search process.

If you have more than one parrot, consider taking another parrot outside with you, especially if it's the opposite sex. The presence of a familiar companion can often attract a lost bird. Keep a close distance to the second parrot about 1 meter or so to ensure a safe return and not further frighten the lost one.

Alternatively, if your parrot has a favorite toy, you can try using it to lure it home. Make some noise with the toy to attract your parrot’s attention. Observe its reactions closely; if it flies further away after you use the toy, stop using it.

You should be familiar with your parrot's favorite treats and bird food. Prepare some of these. Once you spot the parrot, place the bird food out and call its name as you walk slowly back towards home, enticing it to follow until it safely returns indoors.
