When a pet, such as a cat or dog, passes away, the appropriate department to contact for disposal is the city management department. If the deceased pet is a bird or other fowl, the matter should be handled by the agricultural and disease control departments. It is illegal to bury a pet yourself; proper, harmless disposal is required.
Stray cats and dogs are under the supervision of the public security department when they are alive. If they die and no owner can be found, their remains will be handled by the city management department. In the case of wild birds, their carcasses should be handled by the disease control department to prevent the spread of any potential pathogens. The remains of domestic fowl are handled by the agricultural department. If members of the public come across a deceased stray cat or dog, they can report the incident to the city management hotline at 12319; the department will then dispatch personnel to collect the body.
For privately owned pets, most pet owners generally choose one of two methods. One is to use a pet memorial park in the city which specializes in pet cremation. The other method is to have their pet's body handled by the veterinary hospital. If a veterinary hospital has a contract with a qualified medical waste disposal center, the pet's remains will be disposed of harmlessly by the center.
