Immediately following injury, cats may display symptoms such as coma, reduced or absent awareness and reflexes. Clinical signs can include dilated pupils, slow breathing, rapid heartbeat, and an irregular heart rate. There may also be vomiting and loss of bowel or bladder control. Contusions, characterized by hyperemia, congestion, and bleeding of the brain tissue, as well as subdural and epidural hemorrhaging. Neurological symptoms often worsen a few hours after the injury, leading to convulsions, seizures, paralysis, or hemiplegia. If vital centers of the brain are affected, significant changes in body temperature, breathing, circulation, and other vital signs will occur, potentially leading to death.

The possibility of recovery from nerve damage in cats depends on the severity of the injury. Minor damage might not cause noticeable symptoms and could resolve naturally through the body's self-repair mechanisms. In cases of more severe nerve damage, medication aimed at nerve regeneration can be attempted. However, complete recovery may be difficult to achieve.
