Feeding cookies to parrots can potentially be fatal due to the salt and additives they contain, which are extremely harmful to these birds.

Most regular cookies contain salt and additives that can be lethal to parrots. Therefore, it is strongly advised against feeding them cookies. Parrots thrive on a diet of standard feed, primarily consisting of millet, mixed grains, and a significant portion (around 40%-50%) of fresh greens and calcium-rich foods. Human food, particularly cookies, should be avoided due to the risk of fatality. Unless you are using specially formulated parrot biscuits, it's best to stick to their regular diet. Parrot-specific cookies can be expensive; the money you'd spend on a month's supply could buy you a whole clutch of peach-faced lovebirds, which is much more cost-effective.
What Are Some Taboos When Raising Parrots?
1. Avoid feeding parrots human-grade sunflower seeds. These often contain additives that can cause severe liver and kidney damage in parrots. Humans, with their larger body weight, don't suffer the same ill effects from these additives, but small parrots are highly susceptible.
2. Do not feed parrots moldy food or birdseed. Food that has been stored for a long time may become spoiled or damp. Feeding this to parrots can lead to aflatoxin poisoning, which can be fatal.
3. Never hit your parrot. If you physically punish a parrot for misbehavior, it can become withdrawn and make it harder to teach the bird to speak.
4. Do not tie ropes around a parrot's legs. Over time, the rope can tighten, causing deep wounds that could become infected, leading to tissue necrosis. In severe cases, amputation may be necessary.
5. Always maintain a stable room temperature. Avoid extremes of hot and cold. Temperatures below freezing (approximately -10°C) can be lethal to parrots, and temperatures above 30°C can cause heatstroke. Additionally, never take parrots outdoors for walks or leave them on balconies in direct sunlight during summer, as this could be fatal.
