Ragdoll cats are known for their stunning beauty and gentle nature. Their coat colors are diverse, categorized into seven main shades: Seal, Blue, Chocolate, Lilac, Flame (Red), Cream, and Smoke. These colors can further be distinguished by their patterns, leading to variations such as Bicolor, Colorpoint, Mitted, and Van Ragdolls.
Among these, the Bicolor Ragdoll is often considered the most sought-after and commands the highest price, sometimes exceeding ten thousand yuan. This higher price reflects the unique and striking markings of this color pattern.
Understanding Ragdoll Color Patterns
Ragdoll cats can be categorized by both their base color and the distribution of that color in their coat patterns. The Bicolor pattern is particularly popular due to its distinct appearance. Bicolor Ragdolls feature white legs, chest, abdomen, and an inverted 'V' on their face. Their back may have minimal white patches, with color concentrated on the tail, ears, and the 'V' facial marking. The key characteristics include symmetrically dark eye masks, dark ears, a dark-colored back, and a dark tail. Due to their relatively lower population and desirable aesthetics, Bicolor Ragdolls are considered rare and valuable, often costing between ten thousand to tens of thousands of yuan.
Evaluating a Ragdoll's Quality: Key Features
1. Head
A Ragdoll cat's head should be large and broad, yet proportionate to its body. Ideally, it should form an equilateral triangle, with the sides extending from the outer base of the ears to the slightly rounded whisker pads. There should be a flat plane between the ears. The cheeks should narrow in a 'V' shape. Adult male cats may have jowls. When the whiskers and fur are smoothly pushed back, the underlying bone structure of the face should be visible.
2. Eyes
Ragdolls are known for their striking, vivid blue eyes. These eyes should be large, oval-shaped, and well-spaced, with a gentle slant that complements the 'V' shape of their face. The intensity and depth of the blue is a desired trait in the breed.
3. Ears
A Ragdoll’s ears are medium-sized, set wide apart, and should flare outwards slightly, following the 'V' shape of the face. The base of the ears should be broad, and the tips should be rounded, tilting forward slightly. These ear features add to the overall gentle and expressive appearance of the breed.
