Akitas are quite hardy and typically handle temperatures above -12°C without issue. Their dense coat effectively shields them from the cold, helping to maintain their body temperature. Even in cooler indoor environments, Akitas can usually regulate their own warmth.
If an Akita does feel cold, there will be noticeable behavioral changes. These might include shivering, muscle stiffness, lethargy, or difficulty walking.
